Farmers Coaching Project

The Farmers Coaching Project supports farmers, women, schools, and young people in Karatu District to build stronger and more resilient livelihoods through practical knowledge and sustainable agriculture. Rather than introducing short-term solutions, JSFoundation works with local partners and communities to strengthen skills that can be applied, shared, and developed over time. The guiding principle is simple: “If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you.”

A central part of the project is hands-on farmer coaching. Participants learn about sustainable farming practices, soil and water management, crop diversification, nutrition, and the cultivation and use of locally suitable crops. Demonstration fields and nurseries provide practical learning environments where people can experiment, observe results, and take knowledge back to their own farms and families.

Moringa oleifera has played an important role in the project since its early years. By reintroducing and promoting this nutritious and drought-tolerant crop, the program connects agriculture, nutrition, health, and entrepreneurship. Farmers and women’s groups learn not only how to grow and harvest Moringa, but also how to process it into products such as powder, tea, oil, and soap, creating opportunities to add value locally and generate additional income.

The approach has gradually expanded beyond individual farmers into women’s groups, schools, and entire communities. Food forests and school gardens introduce children to growing food and healthy nutrition, while women’s and farmers’ groups combine agricultural training with group savings, small-scale entrepreneurship, and access to microloans. Demonstration sites, including those in Bassodawish and Endamarariek, serve as local hubs where knowledge, planting material, and experience can be shared.

Today, the Farmers Coaching Project is part of a broader effort to build economically and ecologically resilient communities across Endamarariek and Qurus Wards. JSFoundation works through its Tanzanian partners, including KSDI and Tunza Africa, so that knowledge, responsibility, and capacity increasingly remain within the communities themselves. The goal is not just to grow crops, but to help create the conditions in which people can build healthier families, stronger livelihoods, and more self-reliant communities for the future.

Every contribution directly supports community-led, sustainable impact.
